Fall Trend Update!

"Fall Back into the 80's: The Fall Hair and Makeup Trend"

When I start to think about hair accessories, a parade of banana clips, scrunchies, and rhinestone clips march through my head. It must be the nostalgic Jersey girl in me trying to get out. It seems that the eighties are coming back with a vengeance and now the famous banana clip not only can be worn at an eighties inspired costume party, but out to a trendy Hollywood club as well. Now, there is an enormous amount of choice when it comes to hair accessories. Most beauty stores have a wide variety of hair clips, pins, and other colorful items to choose from. I have fallen in love with tiny claw clips that just pin up small pieces of hair. I also have been accessorizing with faux flowers and even using hair pieces to make my hair look fuller or add some temporary highlights. I love to browse craft stores for colorful ribbons and lace to tie around my pigtails. Yes, pigtails are back in style and very cute for long and short hair styles alike.

To my surprise, it seems that tiaras are back in style as well. We are seeing them on the red carpet and brides are choosing to sport them on their big day. I also love those small head pieces or mini hats with the netting attached. It's very old Hollywood. Funky braids and wild curls are a fabulous way to go. I'm a huge fan of tease combs and Aqua Net. Uh oh! The Jersey girl escaped again.  And since big hair is back in, investing in some spray gel will definitely help with the scrunching of the hair.

Now that we have the hair down, or actually teased and sprayed pretty high up, let's focus on makeup. Eighties inspired makeup has slowly but surely been making its way back. And I have been holding on to my blue eye shadow and frosty pink lipstick just waiting for that day! This is the time to experiment and be creative. Traditional eighties makeup was a bit messy and seemingly painted on. It wasn't the subtle blended perfection we see today. It was dramatic and harsh, but still beautiful and sexy. Invest in some liquid black eyeliner and lots of thickening mascara. You can also still find great eighties inspired eye, blush, and lip colors at most cosmetic counters and beauty supply stores.

If you are struggling with the idea of trying this makeup look on yourself or a client, check out the makeup how- to video I just filmed for Expert Village at www.expertvillage.com/video-series/4506_eighties-makeup.htm As far as I'm concerned, big hair and blue eye shadow will never go out of style. It's all in the way you wear it.
